Moscow is the capital of Russia, and not only is it the most populous city in Russia, but it is also the most populous city in Continental Europe, with more than 10.5 million inhabitants. In the last 100 years, the population has increased 10 times. Moscow is, of course, the center and seat of cultural and historical sights and values, religion, economy and administration. This is evidenced by one of the most important cultural attractions and buildings that you can see in Moscow. The Moscow Kremlin, the seat of the cabinet and the residence of the President of Russia, but also a museum at the same time. It is currently the home of Vladimir Putin.

The city was named after the river Moscow, on which it was built around the XI – XII century. The exact year of the conception of Moscow is not known, but it is first mentioned in 1147 through notes and letters.

  • Red Square is the heart of Moscow, and also the starting point for touring the city. Here are Lenin’s Mausoleum, the Church of St. Basil and one of the walls of the Kremlin Fortress. The square has a long history, and was first mentioned in the fifteenth century, when a market was founded on it. Red Square is one of the most interesting tourist locations in Moscow.
  • Lenin’s Mausoleum preserves the body of the famous Soviet revolutionary Vladimir Ilyich Lenin.
  • The Kremlin is the most important landmark of Moscow. This architectural marvel is a witness to numerous historical events, and represents the most beautiful example of Russian architecture. Within the Kremlin are the Terem Castle, the Faceted Palace, the Church of the Assumption, the Church of St. Michael, as well as the mausoleum of the emperors. There is also the Spasskaya Tower, one of the most beautiful in all of Moscow. The Kremlin is on the UNESCO World Heritage List, and is certainly an unavoidable tourist destination in the city.
  • The Church of St. Basil is the endowment of the Russian Tsar Ivan the Terrible, and was built in the period from 1555 to 1561. This beautiful building is one of the symbols of the city of Moscow, and here today is a museum.
  • The Bolshoi Theater is one of the most famous in the world. Beautiful architecture and a perfect art program are the main features of this building.
  • The Moscow metro is one of the most beautiful metros in the world. The stations are decorated in a rich socialist-realist style, with wide pillars and massive chandeliers dominating the building.
  • The Novodevichy Convent was built at the beginning of the sixteenth century, and is in a completely intact condition to this day. This is also a fortress, and there is a cemetery nearby where many Russian greats are buried.
  • Gorky Park was named after Maxim Gorky. The world-famous park is an ideal place to escape from the city noise. There are numerous tourist attractions in it, which are definitely worth visiting.
